形態特徵

  • Perennial herbs; rhizome creeping, conspicuous, fleshy, yellow or orange yellow; stem elongate, 60-100 cm long, erect or ascending, glabrous.
  • Leaves alternate, distichous, ensiform to broadly lanceolate, 25-50 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, apex acuminate to acute, sheathing at base, entire, glaucous, margine pellucid, glabrous on both surfaces, upper ones smaller.
  • Inflorescence terminal, branched corymbose, 10-30 cm long, slender, glabrous; flower-sheaths lanceolate, 4-6 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, acute at apex, amplexicual at base; pedicels 2-4 cm long, glabrous, persistent after the fall of the flowers, straight. Flowers 7-15, rather large, widely opened, 5-5.5 cm in diam.; perianth tube 2-3 mm long; tepals oblong to narrowly oblong, 3-4 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, apex obtuse, base attenuate, short clawed, tepals outer surface yellow, margin orange, inner surface orange, with dark red blotches, outer tepals with a basal dark red, longitudinal, nectariferous groove; stamens 3, inserted at base of inner tepals; filaments filiform, 1-1.5 cm long; anthers basifixed, ca. 1 cm long; ovary obovoid, 1-1.5 cm long, glabrous, 3-celled; ovules several in each cell; style 3-branched; stigma capitate.
  • Fruit a capsule, obovoid-ellipsoid, 3-4 cm long, loculicidally dehiscent; seeds many, globose, 2-2.5 mm in diam., black, lustrous.

分布

  • 台灣 : coast of northern and eastern parts of the island, rather rare; sometimes cultivated in home gardens as an ornamental.
  • 世界 : Korea, Japan, the Ryukyu, northern India and mainland China.
